Our Journey

Three years ago, I began exploring a side to me that I barely knew existed. It wasn’t the painting, it was the ability to create beauty out of waste! Painting rose as a hobby by the age of three. I owe it to my family who helped nurture the talent and passion within. Since childhood, I was always intrigued by the numerous surfaces one could paint on. This led to the urge to experiment with material and surfaces that struck me as ideal to run my brushes on, be it clay, glass, cloth, tiles, skin etc. Every surface I painted on proved to be rejuvenating and gave me a sense of contentment no other activity or hobby could match up to. Today, however, recycling old and worn out items has been the most satisfying considering it has multiple benefits such as reducing waste disposal, creating cost effective decorative items and utilizing them as home or office décor. Yes, they make for fantastic pieces of art that embellish your personal and professional spaces. This way, nothing goes waste! The joy you experience creating art from scrap is both exciting and stimulating!

A psychologist by profession, I continued to pursue Art as a way to ‘de-stress’ and ‘unwind’ from the mundane work life in Mumbai. It’s been the most consistent part of my entire life and still leaves me wondering how calming running a brush across the surface of a canvas or glass or cloth, can be – Therapeutic! Stemming from all this passion and loyalty towards Art, is a journey I recently embarked on. This led to starting a venture two years ago named ‘bOttlestrOkes’. How? The inspiration and idea sourced from witnessing gorgeous bottles simply lying around or being discarded. It was hard to let all that beauty just pass by without adding some pattern and colour. And just like that, ‘bOttlestrOkes’ was conceived! What started out as a simple yet meaningful gifting idea to friends and family, is today a brand that focuses on creating ethnically hand crafted and customised glassware ranging from tea glasses or ‘cutting chai’ glasses to beer mugs. In addition to converting discarded bottles, we began collecting ‘chapati tawas’ from friends and family kind enough to donate their worn out utensils to paint on. Who knew painted and recycled chapati tawas could make for spectacular standalone decor or wall hangings! What makes us different is that we believe in hand crafting and designing every piece with extra care. This way, every piece created is unique and exclusive. The essence of our work lies mainly in hand painting realistic and representative art from around India. We love how colorful the art and culture of our country is and aim to do justice to it's rich cultural heritage! Happy Recycling! :)
